Tribute to an Indonesian Royal Father, the Late Susuhunan of Solo On behalf of my family, I extend heartfelt condolences to the people of Solo and all Indonesians on the passing of His Majesty Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XIII. In February 2025, I had the privilege of visiting Indonesia, inspired by Prof. Peter Lewis’ of John Hopkins University book "Growing Apart: Oil, Politics, and Economic Change in Indonesia and Nigeria". During this journey, I travelled to Solo to meet with the most admired President of Indonesia, and someone I regard as a hero, Joko Widodo (a.ka Jokowi) and while I had the privilege of visiting the Solo Sultanate I had a profound impression and a revealing experience of a leader who skillfully blended tradition with modernity. I met with all the Princess and the Prince. It was with deep sadness that I learned of his passing on 2 November 2025, at the age of 77. The late Susuhunan was more than a traditional ruler; he embodied a bridge between Solo’s rich past and its promising future, inspiring his people through humility, vision, and moral purpose. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to guide the people of Solo and all Indonesians in their pursuit of harmony and progress. -PO
