After delivering my speech at the Commonwealth event in London today, I was made aware of the predicament of a young boy named Quadri Yusuf Alabi, who has been detained for over three months without trial, appeared in court for the first time in March, and still remains held in custody. I have contacted a lawyer, Barrister Inibehe Effiong @InibeheEffiong, who, luckily, has been actively working to intensify his release. I sincerely appeal to the police and other agents of the government to always operate within the law and the rules and stop the weaponizing citizens, especially our youths, who need our care and love to unleash their talents and energy towards building a new Nigeria that is possible. -PO

Today, in London, I had the honour of addressing the Plenary of Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) Trade and Investment Summit of 2025 on topic "AFRICA ROLE IN THE NEW GLOBAL ECONOMY" The discussion on Africa's Role in the New Global Economy is a topic of immense importance considering the opportunities and endless potentials within the vast continent of Africa, which, when fully harnessed, promises a great positive impact, not just within the Commonwealth economy but globally. The recent interventions of President Trump have disrupted some of the settled assumptions of the global economy, which has seen many countries now taking proactive and active responses to secure their economies, while the same is presently not happening in Africa. Despite its vast opportunities, Africa's share of global trade, according to the World Trade Organization (WTO), stands at 2-3%. Our share of the global GDP stands at about 3%. Africa's GDP per capita is even worse at $1900 when compared to the continent in ranking - Asia, where the GDP per capita is around $9000. Africa's global trade and GDP have been stagnant for more than 2 decades in contrast to Africa being the 2nd largest and most populous continent with a population of about 1.5 billion people. Africa is home to the most youthful and dynamic workforce with the largest concentration of working-age population of about 1 billion people. Africa has an abundance of natural resources ranging from minerals to nearly a billion hectares of arable uncultivated land. Africa holds over 60% of the world's arable land. Approximately 30 per cent of the world's mineral resources are found in Africa. While Africa did not witness a similar economic transformation under globalization 2.0, we need to rise up and take the right actions to ensure that we can profit from whatever trading system will arise in the wake of the second Trump Presidency. This Africa can achieve by simply investing in its potential - the youthful human capital of over a billion workforce it has to create the needed skilled workforce and productivity both for Africa's and global development. Africa’s food and agriculture market is projected to increase from its present amount of about US$280 billion a year to over US$1 trillion a year by 2030. This shows that with agriculture at the core of Africa’s economic transformation, the continent has the potential to become a global agricultural powerhouse and a net exporter of food, contributing immeasurably to the new global economy. What is missing is the leadership that can reorder priorities and scale up productivity so that African countries can enter higher grade value creation. We have seen evidence of the possibility of higher-grade value creation in some of the better-governed African countries. The challenge is scaling up and sustaining innovative production in the region. We need to produce more goods and services that the world needs and be smart to leverage whatever global trade arrangement survives Mr Trump’s disruption. This is a junction for transformative change in Africa. This period requires new thinking about leadership. It requires refocusing on productivity. Africa pursued economic convergence in the previous era by importing political and economic institutions of Western developed economics without focusing on productivity and human capital development like the developmental state of Asia. This is the time to rebuild African economies through new leadership that focuses on rapid upgrades in productive capacities, especially innovative education and healthcare and pulling Africans out of poverty. -PO

I am deeply saddened this morning by the news of the passing of Dr Pascal Dozie, a man I held in high esteem. I met him during the formation of Diamond Bank and later MTN Nigeria, and throughout our collaboration, I came to know him as a true gentleman and a teacher who always sought the good of all. His legacy as a banker and entrepreneur stands as a testament to his vision, leadership, and commitment to excellence inspired countless individuals, and businesses. May God Almighty, who called him home, grant him eternal rest in His kingdom, and grant his family and all of us who mourn him the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss. Earlier today, I arrived at London Gatwick Airport aboard Air Peace Airline marking my third trip to London with Air Peace, and each experience has been pleasant. Aboard the flight were other prominent Nigerians including Apostle Johnson Suleman. I always feel happy and proud to see a Nigerian enterprise thriving beyond Nigeria. I am in London to attend the 2025 Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council Trade and Investment Summit at the historic London Mansion House on the 7th and 8th of April, where I will be speaking as a guest speaker. I have been a member of the Governing Council Board since its inception in 1997. To be on the path of developmental growth, we must invest and can achieve development, and growth by investing in and focusing on critical areas that drive sustainable economic growth, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, particularly by supporting SMEs to drive productivity, employment, and innovation. Indeed, a new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

I would like to commend the Nigeria Police Force for the wise and timely decision it took to withdraw the invitation extended to His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II. In light of the current tensions within our society, such an invitation was unnecessary and could have further heightened an already inflamed situation. There is a fully functional police command in Kano, with sufficient capacity to address such matters within the State. That is precisely why we have senior-ranking officers, including Commissioners of Police and Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs), to handle issues of this nature appropriately at the state and zonal levels. Once again, I appreciate the decision to withdraw the invitation. A decentralised approach would encourage peace and public trust. -PO

An unending gory story in our land. I woke up this morning reading about yet another gory and deeply distressing report from Bokkos, Plateau State. Entire families have again, been slaughtered in yet another senseless attack. Children and pregnant women were not spared. Five communities in Bokkos: Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai have been left in mourning, forced to bury their loved ones in mass graves. How long will these killings, kidnapping, maiming and criminality continue in our nation that is not at war? How long must we wait to act decisively and focus on this drastic situation that is crippling our nation? How many more must die before the government act for the people? We are now normalizing mass killings and mass burials as a way of life in our nation. Every Nigerian life is sacred, whether in Edo State, Benue, Enugu, Borno, Anambra, Ondo, or Plateau. Communities now live in fear and no longer have a livelihood either in their farms or in their markets, without being killed, kidnapped, and maimed. Communities like Bokkos in Plateau, Jato-Aka in Benue, Eha-Amufu in Enugu, Ufuma in Anambra, and Aba Oyinbo in Ondo deserve government protection. We must end this grief and terror, as this is becoming extremely unacceptable. The government and security agencies must ensure that these killings are stopped, concrete steps are made to prevent future occurrences, and those arrested face the justice they deserve. My heart goes to the people of Bokkos, and others in various communities. No Nigerian should live in fear as the government must do what it takes to protect Nigerians. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Today, I attended the World Autism Awareness Day at Eagles Square, Abuja, where I had the privilege of witnessing an extraordinary display of talent, resilience, and determination. The Guinness World Record holder Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, who has broken the Guinness World Record in painting on Canvas. He was reported to have made the largest art canvas of 12,303.87m² in 4 months to beat the previous world record of 9,652m² earlier achieved by another individual in 7 months. During the event, I emphasized the crucial role of youth-led initiatives in shaping a more inclusive and progressive society. Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement is a testament to the boundless potential that exists within every individual, regardless of the challenges they face. It reinforces the urgent need for inclusivity, support, and opportunities for persons with special abilities. As a nation, we must commit to fostering an environment where talent, creativity, and hard work are recognized, nurtured, and celebrated. Kanyeyachukwu’s story is not just an inspiration; it is proof that with determination, encouragement, and the right opportunities, greatness can emerge from the most unexpected places. Let us all remain committed to building a society that leaves no one behind as we continue to invest in the critical pillars of human development: education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty. -PO

Today, I made a solemn trip to Katsina to pay my personal, sincere condolences to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on the passing of his beloved mother, Hajiya Safara'u Umaru Barbari. Losing a loved one, especially a mother, is an immeasurable loss, and I can only imagine the grief that he and his family are experiencing at this moment. During my visit, I conveyed my sympathies and prayers, hoping to offer some comfort in this time of sorrow. I stand in solidarity with Governor Radda, his immediate family, and the extended Barbari family as they navigate this painful period. I pray that the Almighty Allah forgive her sins and grant her eternal rest in His kingdom; and His Excellency and his family the strength to bear this loss with fortitude and grace. -PO

Today, I received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Zubairu Momoh, a dedicated member of our Obidient family. He fought bravely against illness, and I vividly remember visiting him in the hospital in Lagos. Despite his struggles, he remained in good spirits, and I encouraged him to hold on to hope as we all prayed for his recovery. Learning of his passing, during the sacred month of Ramadan, is truly painful. Yet, even in our grief, we submit to the divine will of the Almighty who alone gives and takes life. On behalf of my family and the entire Obidient family, I extend my deepest condolences to his loved ones, especially his wife, and to all of us who mourn this great loss. Zubairu played a vital role in our collective struggle for a better nation, and his contributions will never be forgotten. May God Almighty grant him eternal rest and give his family, friends, and all who mourn him the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. May God continue to protect and bless his family always. –PO

Today, in the true spirit of Eid-love, compassion, and solidarity—I paid a visit to the IDP Camp in Durumi, Abuja, to support and share moments with our fellow Nigerians who, due to unfortunate circumstances, have been displaced from their homes. Their resilience, strength, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity demand our attention and continue to inspire us all. Let us reflect on the true essence of Eid—sacrifice, charity, and unity. This is a time to renew our commitment to building a nation where every Nigerian, regardless of background, has access to the basic necessities of life. We must continue to invest in critical areas of development—education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation—to create a more just, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria where no one is left behind. As we celebrate the Mother's Day today, I join the nation to celebrate the motherly love, selfless sacrifices and maternal care of all mothers in Nigeria. I acknowledge and applaud their immeasurable contributions to our respective families - which form the very nucleus of our society, while also appreciating their invaluable contributions to our communities and nation at large. Our mothers play very critical roles in nurturing their respective families, shaping the minds and characters of citizens in society from childhood and spreading high levels of morals in the larger society. A day like this offers us the opportunity to show them gratitude for their unwavering support and priceless roles in our lives. Today also offers us the opportunity to reevaluate the challenges of motherhood in Nigeria and find ways to improve their lives and society in general. From widespread poverty and hunger, which have seen mothers also toiling so hard to earn a living, to a deplorable healthcare system that has seen an unacceptable maternal mortality rate - these need to be addressed. The 2023 UN Report on Trends in Maternal Mortality from 2000-2020 revealed that nearly 28.5% of global maternal deaths happen in Nigeria. The report further states that a woman in Nigeria has a 1 in 19 lifetime risk of dying during pregnancy, childbirth, or postpartum, whereas, in the most developed countries, the lifetime risk is 1 in 4900. These are direct consequences of not investing in the very critical areas of national development - health, education and fighting poverty. And just like men, women - and mothers are also victims of our bad decisions and misplaced priorities as leaders. On this day, may we commit to protecting, empowering and appreciating our mothers whose love and sacrifices make our lives beautiful. A Heartbreaking Moment as I visit the Scene of Tragedy Today, I visited the burnt electronics market at Iweka Road and the devastated warehouse at Ifejirika Street (Main market), Onitsha in Anambra State. It was a deeply painful experience to witness the enormous loss suffered by traders at such a challenging time. Without a doubt, several billions of naira worth of goods and properties were lost. The scale of the destruction was overwhelming. I held private meetings with the leadership of both markets, as well as with some of the traders most severely affected by the inferno. I thank the State Fire Service for their efforts in containing the spread of the fire, despite the obvious challenges. I sincerely appeal to the Government at all levels: Local Government, Council, State Government, Federal Government, Corporate bodies, and Private Individuals to extend assistance by any means possible to the victims at this difficult time. In my own modest way, I intend to offer my modest support. In moments like this, our shared humanity must prevail. Let us come together to restore hope, rebuild livelihoods, and reaffirm the spirit of community that defines us. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

I have come across a report circulating on social media regarding an APC gathering where my name was mentioned. Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives. For the avoidance of doubt, both now and in the future, I am not a member of the APC, nor am I an intending member. My stance on politics has always been rooted in integrity, fairness, and issue-based engagement. I firmly believe that all political parties should assess aspirants solely on their competence, capacity, and compassion — qualities essential for building a better Anambra and a better Nigeria. As for Valentine Ozigbo, I maintain that he, like every other aspirant, should be evaluated based on these key leadership qualities in his new political party. Elections and primaries should not be reduced to toxic narratives or personal attacks. Political choices should be guided by credibility, vision, and the ability to deliver real change — not by dragging individuals into toxic discussions, blackmail, or needless controversy. Furthermore, primaries — whether conducted through voting, interviews, selection processes, or any other democratic method — must be free, fair, and credible. Every aspirant who is a legitimate member of a party deserves a fair chance to contest without bias or blackmail. As we approach the Anambra State governorship election in November, I sincerely hope that all parties, including mine, will ensure a transparent and democratic process, and engage in credible, fair primaries. This election presents a unique opportunity for Nigeria to embrace true democracy — something that, unfortunately, remains elusive in our nation today. I wish all political parties the very best in conducting free and fair primaries, and I call on all stakeholders to uphold justice throughout the process. We must reject toxic politics, for that is the only path to achieving the democratic nation we currently lack. By doing so, we will move closer to the new Nigeria we seek. The news of the killings of Northern travellers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, is deeply saddening. Such killings have become a recurring tragedy in our decaying society. Acts of violence like these are abhorrent and had no place in our society yesterday, just as they should have no place in any decent society today. Every Nigerian, regardless of ethnic or regional background, has the right to move freely and safely within our nation. Reports indicate that these individuals were accused of being kidnappers, leading to their brutal murder by a mob. While addressing security concerns and combating criminal activities is crucial, resorting to extrajudicial measures undermines the rule of law and exacerbates the cycle of violence. I commend the government for condemning this incident and initiating an investigation. Furthermore, the authorities should also address the killings of Edo indigenes to ensure that justice is served for all. This tragic event yesterday underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and increased public awareness to prevent such occurrences in the future. Communities must collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is pursued through legal channels rather than through unlawful actions. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Let us all work together to foster a society where peace, unity, and respect for human life prevail. -PO

I received with deep sadness the distressing news of the fire outbreak at the Iweka Electronics Market in Onitsha. This is yet another devastating blow to the hardworking and industrious traders who form the backbone of our economy. My thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with all those affected—individuals who have lost their goods, their means of livelihood, and in some cases, years of hard work. At a time when economic hardship continues to weigh heavily on our people, such tragedies are even more painful. I urge the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and to put in place preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. May those affected find strength to rebuild, and may we, as a people, always stand together in solidarity during such trying times. -PO

Advancement of Healthcare and Education in our society has continued to be a driving force for me as it remains the main indexes of development. It's this basis that informed my visit today to the School of Midwifery of Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, Owerri. Over the years, I have consistently advocated for increased and more strategic investments in the critical sectors of education and healthcare - sectors that form the bedrock of any thriving nation. In particular, I continue to emphasise the urgent need to encourage the training and empowerment of healthcare professionals, whose roles are indispensable to national and global development. During my visit, I had an engaging and enlightening interaction with the students of the institution. As part of my support, I made a donation of ₦15 million to assist the school in its noble mission of producing well-trained and highly competent healthcare workers. Together, through sustained investment and shared commitment, we can build a healthier, more educated, and more hopeful nation. -PO

Our national football team - The Super Eagles is always a delight to watch. Yesterday, I travelled to Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, where I joined a host of other sport-enthusiastic Nigerians to support The Super Eagles as they played the Warriors of Zimbabwe in their sixth match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match. As usual, our team demonstrated the true Nigerian spirit of strength, resilience and dedication on the field of play. Football, and indeed sports, has remained a strong unifying factor for our nation battling with disunity. While we may not have clinched the victory on the field of play, our dear players have, again, won our hearts with their obvious display of sportsmanship. I sincerely appreciate our dear national football team and, indeed, everyone whose efforts and sacrifices got us far in this journey. Our labours were not in vain. A New Nigeria and a New Africa are POssible. -PO

Yesterday, in Abuja, I was delighted to join other notable Nigerians to celebrate with my dear brother and former Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Emeka Ihedioha, as he marked his 60th birthday. Ihedioha’s remarkable personality continues to manifest in his deep-rooted patriotism and his numerous contributions to the growth of our nation. Having served the country both as a state governor and as a member of the House of Representatives, he remains steadfast in his commitment to building a better Nigeria. As a political leader, he embodies competence, strength, and resilience, and stands out as one of the few Nigerian leaders who are truly passionate and dedicated to national development. On this special occasion, I sincerely congratulate him and pray that God Almighty grants him many more healthy, fruitful, and happy years as he continues to make impactful contributions to the progress of our country. May God Almighty continue to bless his family always. – PO

What is happening in the country today as it relates to River State is an aberration, unknown to our Constitution and must be condemned by every discerning mind. What we are witnessing in Rivers State is a brazen disobedience and disregard for the rule of law and our democratic principles. The decision to release statutory allocations to an appointed Sole Administrator, despite a standing order of the Supreme Court, is not just unlawful — it is a direct challenge to the authority of the highest court of our country. The Supreme Court had explicitly barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) from releasing these funds until a properly constituted House of Assembly passes a valid Appropriation Act. Yet, we see a situation where this order is being ignored. This raises serious moral intentions, and questions of what is happening in Rivers State. By disregarding the judgment of the Supreme Court, those involved are setting a dangerous precedent. The CBN and AGF, institutions meant to uphold the law, should not be complicit in this disregard for our judiciary. We cannot build a nation where those who swore oaths to uphold our constitution and obey the laws are doing the opposite. This is about more than just Rivers State; it is about protecting the very fabric of our democracy, and our existence as a nation. A country cannot function where the rule of law is trampled upon, where the separation of powers is disregarded, and where judicial decisions are treated as mere suggestions. If we continue this way, we are undermining the future of our democracy. We must choose to do the right thing — to respect the law and uphold the principles that bind us as a nation.
